Garnacha, known in France as Grenache and in Sardinia as Cannonau, is thought to come from northeastern Spain and thrives in warm, dry climates. It gives generous wines with ripe red fruit, spice and fairly high alcohol, with lighter color and tannin than many reds. It is grown widely in Aragón, Navarra, Priorat and the southern Rhône, both on its own and in blends.
