Syrah comes from the northern Rhône, the home of Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie, and is known as Shiraz in Australia. It gives deeply colored wines with firm tannins and flavors of blackberry, black pepper, olive and smoked meat. Cooler sites bring out its peppery side, warmer ones a riper, richer fruit.
