Tempranillo is Spain's best known red grape, named for its early ripening. It is the main grape of Rioja and Ribera del Duero, where it is also called Tinto Fino or Tinta del País; in Catalonia it is Ull de Llebre, and in Portugal Tinta Roriz or Aragonez. It gives medium to full-bodied wines with red cherry and plum fruit, and with oak aging it develops notes of leather, tobacco and vanilla.
