Chardonnay comes from Burgundy and is now one of the most widely planted white grapes in the world. Fairly neutral on its own, it reflects its site and the winemaking closely, from lean, mineral and citrusy wines in cool places to rich, rounder styles with notes of ripe fruit, butter and toast when aged in oak. It is also a key grape for sparkling wine.
