Platani is a rare white grape of Santorini, found in small plantings among the island's old vines. Like other Santorini whites it grows in volcanic soil, and it gives dry wines with fresh acidity and a mineral character. It is usually blended with other island varieties such as Athiri or Assyrtiko.
