Macabeo is a white grape grown across northern Spain and in Roussillon, where it is called Macabeu, and it is known as Viura in Rioja. It gives fairly neutral, fresh wines with light floral and citrus notes. It is one of the three main grapes of Cava, and in Rioja it is also aged in oak for long-lived whites.
