Viognier comes from the northern Rhône, where it is the grape of Condrieu. It gives full-bodied, aromatic wines with fairly low acidity and a perfume of apricot, peach, honeysuckle and white flowers. In Côte-Rôtie a small share is traditionally fermented with Syrah, and it is now grown in many warm regions.
