Monastrell is the Spanish name for the grape known in France as Mourvèdre and in Australia as Mataro. It ripens late and thrives in hot, dry places such as Jumilla, Yecla and Alicante. Its wines are full-bodied and tannic, with dark fruit, herbs and a savory, meaty character.
